a short poem about misunderstanding

i was in the shoe store with nick
everything is young & hip
hip-hop on the soundtrack
two dudes walk pass
i hear
--man, this must be the wrong store, there's an old man here
when we leave i ask nick
--did you hear what those two dudes said about me?
--dad, i think they said, this must be the wrong store,
there's no vans here

it;s funny how we become bionic as we age. glasses, teeth, hearing aids etc etc. like the six million dollar man! 'we can improve him. we have the technology.' and we have a choice with the devices. i mean, if i want the world to become a softer, fuzzier place all i need to do is take off my glasses, and lo! the world loses its hard edge. i suppose if you are in a crowd with lots of annoying noise, all you need to do for blessed relief is either turn down, or remove, your hearing aids. viola! peace is preserved.
