i've always longed for a poetics that take the serious & the absurd & grinds them into a new paste e.g. that gilligan's island episode when the castaways retooled hamlet into a broadway musical & created a new beast

personally, no. his poetry, yes. he's mashed pop and high culture. i suppose trinidad has indeed created something like a musical of hamlet. i recall a long poem based on the patty duke TV show about identical cousins titled 'dougle trouble' so yes, he's on to the kind of poetics i long for.

Yes, Trinidad takes pop fluff and pretends it's Shakespeare, not the other way round.

yes, but shakespeare was a popular writer, a very great poet, indeed, however the bard was a man and theater owner of his time and created popular culture. it is we who anointed his work 'high' art. in my estimation there is bad and good art but there is no high or low art. art is what we say it is. much like duchamp's urinal art is what we name.
