just for the hell of it

feeling a bit maudlin watching this video by oingo boingo. no longer together danny elfman is better known now as a film composer esp. his scores for the films of tim burton. boingo is not my favorite band from the 1980s, but elfman has a fine voice and his talent as a songwriter is clearly evident from this piece.

'we close our eyes' and another year has turned again. it has, it really has. holy shit.

I've never been able to get into them, despite my post-punk/ new wave obsession, and now I know why:

Danny Elfman SITS while he sings.

that doesn't bother me anymore than nirvana going acoustic and sitting down the entire set for mtv unplugged. there's a bit of intimacy here, and i think it shows that the band, and elfman, are thoroughly enjoying themselves onstage.

but as i've said before i've never really got into boingo, except for liking a fistful of their songs a lot.

i've watched this video now about a dozen times. the song is on continous loop. i hear it morning noon and night. it is a very catchy song. and i think the only way to remove it from my grey matter is a lobotomy.
