a future nobel laureate talks books
i mentioned tom verlaine being on my shortlist of nobel prize in literature winners. verlaine was born thomas miller and took his name from the decadent 19th century french poet, and former lover of arthur rimbuad, paul verlaine. tom is a great guitarist first as a leader of the NYC punk band television. but he is also a reader, and as i suspected, a writer. here in this interview discusses books, only books, and, yes, tom verlaine reads a lot of poetry. and confesses he does a lot of writing too. i think it is high time tom collected his writings and published them. i'm waiting, almost patiently.

Hi, Richard. Just back from the UK. So do you think Tom Verlaine should have won instead of Dylan? Serious question. Also, Eileen just posted some "flash autobiographies" and asked if anyone else was doing that kind of work so I mentioned your dailies. We ought to talk soon. Drop me an email about what might work for you.
hi john, i mean tom verlaine is just as viable a candidate as bob dylan. i mentioned this to anna and she scoffed because dylan has the history of influence of the largest generation of people in the u.s. verlaine does not have that same large sphere of influence. but for those few who are influenced by 1970s punk rock then verlaine, and patti smith and richard hell, very serious lit./songwriters who have published books too, then yes, verlaine is just as worthy of a nobel as dylan.
i hope you had a lovely time in the uk. i'll write you shortly.
