Now, now. That's one of the secrets. And here you've given it up! Not that anybody who believes there are secrets will believe that life is a lot of fumbling around, which makes it one of those hiding-in-plain-sight sort of secrets.

well, yes, not really a secret but something we forget about as we try to plan and structure our lives, and thru media, even art, we are shown, and taught, that we can have perfect lives without the stumbles if only we study hard, play by the rules, go to the correct schools, and do the proscribed things. when we do stumble, fail, fail, in the phrase of the great s. beckett, better, we feel awful for doing so because what we are taught/shown things will be perfect. that they are not only deepens our despair. thus, what is obvious, our noble failure[s], as we struggle in our lives to match the unrealized ideal, perfection. what was it yeats said, one must choose the perfection of the life or the work. well, i think he was full of shit. we can't do either. what we can do is stumble, pick ourselves up, and stumble again. the trick is to develop a habit of expressing gratitude for this is our only chance and even failure is a gift.
