everyday is halloween
the ray bradbury theater intro
i was a shitty student. but i became a passionate reader at age 16 & tried my hand at fiction. ray bradbury was my man at the time. i loved - still love - his thickly descriptive prose style & his deeply wild imagination. bradbury was a writer of dark fantasy, & a keen lover of halloween, autumnal light, the fancies of children, silver rocket ships & the red grit of martian soil. in fact, it was bradbury's the martian chronicles that turned me on to poetry. i read in wonder the brief prose poems that punctuated bradbury's stories about the red planet. later i discovered ray bradbury published poetry too. as i said, i was a terrible student, lazy, unfocused, rambling but i fell in love with literature & writing. i knew a writer didn't need to have a formal education or degree. but i didn't know any writers. i've never met another human being who loved poetry too. so when i saw this intro to the ray bradbury theater hosted by the man himself i was beside myself with excitement. i can see & hear my hero as he explores his own magician's toy shop writing studio. this TV show was the confirmation i needed to start my own life in poetry, & my beloved genre of horror. as bradbury says himself, the journey is exactly one half exhilaration & exactly one half terror.
